“Here There be Dragons (part one and two)” is a whimsical hand drawn animation of the scene directly across the street with monsters and strange creatures inhabiting the landscape. One device would be installed on the Detroit side of the border and the other on the Hamtramck side. Reminiscent of ancient maps depicting the “edge of the world”, this piece is inspired by the myths that we invent to describe unknown and mysterious places.

Andy Malone’s work is designed to be touched and played with. Viewer interaction completes the work. Malone’s wooden mechanisms, board games and drawings have been celebrated in over 40 exhibitions since 1995; notably the Selecti show (2002) at Detroit Artist Market (chosen by curator Lawrence Rinder), the Detroit Institute of Arts Grand Re-Opening (2007), and Re:Action (2008) at Ann Marie Gardens in Solomons, MD (Grand Prize Winner). Recently, Andy has proudly collaborated on installations with Afterhouse and The James and Grace Lee Boggs School, both in Detroit.
